Nata Indonesia – Kaesang Pangarep, recently-elected Chairman of Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI), has expressed gratitude towards the party members and management for giving him the opportunity to lead the party.
“I have been chosen to helm this vessel named PSI,” said Kaesang during his inaugural speech at the Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta, on Monday night, September 25, 2023.
Discussing PSI, previously led by Giring Ganesha, Kaesang acknowledged that it isn’t a large party. Smiling to one side, Kaesang commented,
“If this were a grand ship… but we are on the path to become one.” Following his appointment, Kaesang articulated his confidence and optimism in spearheading PSI to greater heights. He believes that currents and waves would favor the party he now leads. In addition, he expressed gratitude to the 137 organizations supporting President Joko Widodo, aka Jokowi.
As his father’s name rang out, echoes filled the room. “Jokowi… Jokowi…, Jokowi,” the party members from across Indonesia cheered. “Thank you for leading Jokowi through two terms,” Kaesang said.
Primarily, Kaesang became a PSI cadre after being granted a membership card for the party on Saturday, September 23. The card was given directly by Giring at Jokowi’s residence in Kelurahan Sumber, Kecamatan Banjarsari, Surakarta, Central Java.
Kaesang revealed he joined PSI because of its shared views on the importance of youth participation in politics. Recounting his long-term communication with PSI’s top officials, he expressed, “Frankly speaking, my inspiration to enter politics is my own father,” Kaesang admitted among the applause. “He’s a person I dearly admire and respect. I want to follow him.”
